Be Informed. Be Prepared. Be Free.
Estate planning works best when people understand what they’re doing — and why. For California families, that clarity makes all the difference.
At Bier Law, our approach is built around one simple belief: clarity leads to confidence, and confidence leads to better decisions.
That philosophy is captured in our motto — Be Informed. Be Prepared. Be Free.
Be Informed: Education Comes First
Estate planning involves unfamiliar terms, emotional topics, and important decisions that can feel overwhelming if you’re rushed or underinformed.
We’ve found that when clients begin with education:
— Conversations are more meaningful
— Questions are more thoughtful
— Decisions feel intentional, not pressured
That’s why we start with education.
Before scheduling a Personal Planning Session, we ask prospective clients to attend one of our educational workshops — either live or on demand — so you can learn at your own pace, without pressure.
The goal is simple: to help you understand your options well enough to make informed choices that truly fit your life.
Why We Do It This Way
When clients come into a meeting already informed, our time together changes. Instead of spending the session explaining basic concepts, we can focus on:
— Your family and relationships
— What you’re worried about
— What you want to protect
— What a well-designed plan should actually accomplish
This isn’t about gatekeeping or rules — it’s about making our time together useful, respectful, and productive.
Be Prepared: Turning Knowledge Into a Real Plan
Information alone isn’t enough.
Knowledge becomes powerful when it’s paired with action — and that’s where preparation comes in. The Personal Planning Session (PPS) is where education turns into strategy.
During your PPS, you meet one-on-one with attorney Seth Bier to:
— Talk through your goals and concerns
— Explore planning options that make sense for your situation
— Understand how different choices affect your family
— Begin building a legally valid plan that works in real life
There’s no rush and no pressure. The focus is on helping you prepare thoughtfully, with clarity about what you’re doing and why.
Be Free: Peace of Mind Is the Point
The ultimate goal of estate planning isn’t documents. It’s freedom.
Freedom from:
— Worrying about “what if something happens”
— Uncertainty about who would step in
— Fear of court involvement
— Sleepless nights wondering if you’ve done enough
When clients are informed and prepared, they gain something far more valuable than paperwork — they gain peace of mind. They know their wishes are clear, their loved ones are protected, and they’ve taken control of decisions that matter most.
That sense of relief is what we hear about most often once a plan is in place.
Planning Should Feel Empowering
Estate planning doesn’t have to feel intimidating or transactional — when done thoughtfully, it can feel clarifying, empowering, and even relieving.
Our approach is designed to meet people where they are — informed, prepared, and supported at every step. The next step simply depends on how you prefer to learn.
How to Get Personalized Guidance
At Bier Law, we believe in education first — not just paperwork.
That’s why we offer several ways to learn the fundamentals of estate planning, so you can choose the option that feels most comfortable for you.

FAQs
We strongly encourage starting with education, because it leads to more productive and meaningful planning conversations. That said, we won’t force anyone to attend a workshop.
If you prefer to schedule a Personal Planning Session without completing the educational step first, we offer that option for a $600 fee. If you decide to move forward with an estate plan afterward, that fee is applied toward your planning cost.
Our goal isn’t to create barriers — it’s to make sure your time (and ours) is well spent.
The workshop is primarily educational and informational. It’s centered around the Jones family story and explains how estate planning works in real life — including the differences between wills and trust-based planning, and how each impacts families during incapacity and after death.
At the end of the presentation, Seth briefly explains our planning process, what it’s like to work with us, the cost of a trust-based estate plan, and what’s included. This is done so attendees have clarity — not pressure — about what the next steps could look like if they choose to move forward.
Once your session is scheduled, you’ll receive a link to a Personal Planning Session Form, which we ask you to complete and submit at least 24 hours before your appointment.
Other than that, there’s nothing you need to bring or prepare. The session is designed to meet you where you are, using the information you’ve already shared so the conversation can focus on what matters most to you.
