We initially found Seth Bier when I started researching estate attorneys because my husband and I weren’t sure if we needed a will or a trust or what– we just knew that the gratis will I’d pulled from online and filled out probably wasn’t enough. I came across a video of Seth explaining the differences between wills and trust and was impressed that he offered so much valuable information without charging as so many ‘informational videos’ you find online are just one long ad to get you to hire an attorney to get the real information once you pay them.
We decided to take Seth up on the offer for a free consultation and after that hour-long meeting, we knew we wanted to hire him to put our estate in order as our situation was even more complex than we thought it was.
After multiple meetings so that we could digest everything we needed to think about and put together over the course of several months, we are now done with this process and couldn’t be happier that we chose to work with Seth.
He explained everything in detail, gave us options so we could figure out what was best in our situation, was very flexible with meeting times, responded promptly to emails, and knowing that as our lives evolve and change, Seth (or one of the attorneys he’s associated with) will review our plan and update it. He’ll also work with our trustees and executors to walk them through the process once we pass.
Seth is not the ‘cheapest’ attorney out there. But my husband and I both agree that the level of service and experience he provides competely justifies the additional expense. The more we researched on our own and saw how trusts can fail and what an expensive hassle probate can be, we realized why it’s important to have a really good estate planning attorney. Even simple things like the tax advantages of deeding property as community property instead of joint tenants weren’t even on our radar before meeting with Seth. As my husband said after our second or maybe third meeting with Seth, “That guy’s worth every penny.” The money we will eventually save in taxes and the money our heirs will save by having a properly created estate plan far outweighs his fees.
